Old Viscosity Ale

I think you have to at least try a beer that calls itself Old Viscosity, and who’s motto is "Not your Dad’s 30 Weight". It’s a local beer from one of the many excellent San Diego micro breweries, and it’s dark, rich, chocolatey and has 10% alcohol. Truly, not your dad’s 30 weight. Since, I bought it to photograph, I figured that in the interest of supporting our local breweries, I’d suck it up ….. I mean sample it. I’m happy to report that it’s excellent. I wish I knew more pretentious beer talk. I had to do a little clean up work on a few reflections in PS.
Strobist info: This is another attempt at lighting glass. I haven’t come close to mastering the technique, but the book "Light Science and Magic – An introduction to Photographic Lighting" has an entire chapter devoted to this difficult subject, and what I’ve learned has come from this excellent book. I lit it by placing a YongnuoSB560-II in a 24 inch softbox behind the bottle, and then put a piece of black foam board, a little bigger than the bottle, to act as a gobo, in front of the softbox, but behind the bottle. The flash was in manual mode, and was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. To light the front of the bottle i put a YN560 in an identical softbox, camera right in front at a 45 degree angle to the bottle, and since I don’t have a 3rd softbox I hand held a Strobie 130 behind a large diffuser to the left at an identical 45 degree angle. The strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other beers that I’ve photographed can be seen in my Beer set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157634466859967/
