Barley Brown’s Brew Pub 20th Anniversary Celebration
Had a great time celebrating the 20th anniversary of Baker City’s award winning Barley Brown’s Brew Pub including the Baker City Brewing Company which is the latest expansion and located across the corner from the original brew pub now serves as the primary brewing facility for Barley Browns and includes a tap house with 22 varieties of Barley Browns Beer on tap. In 2013 Baker City Brewing was named the Best Very Small Brewery in the nation at the Great American Beer Festival.

Craft beer is going to the birds.

Few fans of ‘craft’ breweries call these relatively small (often independent and/or local) breweries "microbreweries" anymore, a term that lost favor in the early 2000s.
In a January 2017 news story about statewide cooperation between several Virginia breweries, not only did a Roanoke, Virginia, television station use the antiquated term, it hilariously misspelled it as a small bird: "microw."
Local MICROW-breweries collaborating on an ‘All-Virginia Adventure Pack.
14 January 2017.
"Local microbreweries are pulling together for a special collaboration.
Devils Backbone is working with five local microbreweries to make some special beers and put together an ‘All-Virginia Adventure Pack.’ Collaboration among the smaller breweries is normal, but now they’ll get wider distribution through Devils Backbone’s network.
‘We wanted to kind of take our friends in the Virginia brewing industry and sort of showcase them and help them out,’ Devils Backbone Brewmaster Jason Oliver said [pictured above].
‘We want to expand into some more states, and it actually will help us in the long run by letting people know who we are and what we do too. Overall, it’s a win-win for everybody I think,’ Parkway Brewing Co. Brewmaster Mike Pensinger said.
The adventure packs will be available in stores in April."
Devils Backbone, founded in Roseland, Virginia, in 2008, produced 62,000 barrels of beer in 2015. In April 2016, the brewery was purchased by Anheuser-Busch InBev. As a consequence, the brewery was soon thereafter kicked out of the [U.S.] Brewers Association, the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild, and the Virginia Craft Brewers Fest (which it had hosted for five years since its inauguration). The brewery is expanding both the physical grounds of its brewpub and the brewhouse itself, installing a 120-barrel kettle and associated tanks, increasing annual capacity to 275-thousand barrels.
